I began this series during the final two months of my training at the École Supérieure d’Ébénisterie d’Avignon, as each student was working on their end-of-year piece.
As a student myself, I photographed from within the group, staying close to the gestures, the glances, and the moments we shared. Gradually, the focus shifted: it was no longer simply about documenting the making of the furniture but about what was being built around it.
Between the workbenches, there was mutual support, shared meals, conversations with our teachers, games of pétanque, inventory, cleaning the workshop together, waiting for the jury, the furniture leaving the school, and finally, saying goodbye.
The furniture leaves the workshop. The bonds remain, like the trace of a group that will never come together again in quite the same way.
